Map of the Olympic Maracanã Cluster
The Maracanã Region contains five sports venues, taking the Games to the city’s North Zone: our map contains the Maracanã, Maracanãzinho, Julio de Lamare Aquatic Park, João Havelange Olympic Stadium and Sambadrome (Rio’s samba parade ground). The region’s legacies include an expansion of the Sambadrome, completed in February 2012.
We designed a map of the Maracanã zone including two of the most iconic locations in Rio de Janeiro: the Maracanã Stadium and the Sambódromo – as well as the Olympic Stadium, built for the Rio 2007 Pan and Parapan American Games. Located in the north of Rio, the Maracanã and Maracanãzinho – the arena alongside the stadium – are just a few minutes from the city centre. Thousands of people visit the site every day, whether it is for work or exercise, taking advantage of the tracks that surround the sport complexes.
